Verstappen not completely satisfied after second pole of the weekend: ‘It was okay’ | formula 1

--

Max Verstappen remains critical after taking pole position for the second time this weekend in Miami. The Dutchman still does not feel completely comfortable in his car.

“We have definitely improved the car compared to the sprint race,” said 26-year-old Verstappen, who beat Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc (second) and Carlos Sainz (third) at the Miami International Autodrome.

“I don’t know what it is. Every year when we come here, we find it difficult to be consistent over one round. It is very difficult to ensure that both sector 1 and sector 3 feel good. We had to find the balance today. We did that okay.”

Verstappen, who had already won the sprint race from pole earlier in the day, was therefore unable to get much pleasure from his qualifying. “It wasn’t the nicest lap I’ve ever done,” he continued. “That’s because it’s so slippery, it doesn’t give you much confidence. But we’re on pole and that’s the most important thing.”

Verstappen looked critically at the start

Verstappen already announced that he would adjust his car after the sprint race. “That now at least feels a little more like I have control of the car. Hopefully that will also help us tomorrow,” said the Red Bull driver.

Moreover, Verstappen also looked critically at his start during the sprint race. He was almost beaten by Leclerc. “I know what I did wrong at the start today. If I do my things correctly, I should be fine at the start tomorrow.”

Verstappen took pole position for the seventh time in a row in Miami, approaching Ayrton Senna’s record. The legendary Brazilian was on pole position eight times in a row in 1988 and 1989. The Miami Grand Prix starts on Sunday at 10 p.m. (Dutch time).
