Last year Thomas Beelen played for Sunday evening’s opponent, but nowadays he plays effortlessly in Arne Slot’s team. After the 5-0 victory over his former employer, Beelen was positive: “It was fun to play against Zwolle.”
Beelen played as a left central defender on Sunday evening, the position normally occupied by David Hancko, and did a creditable job. “It was a nice evening for us,” the central defender told ESPN. “It was fun to play against Zwolle. I already came on during the away match, but now I was in the starting line-up. Lately I have played everything. It went quickly, so that is nice.”
Although there is virtually nothing at stake anymore and the season feels like it is over for most supporters, Beelen did not find it difficult to recharge for the match. “It is not very difficult to focus on a match. Above all, it is fun to play, and the conditions were also very good. Everyone can therefore muster the motivation.”
At the start of the season, Beelen did not get much playing time, but since the injury of the now recovered Trauner, he has been a permanent member of Arne Slot’s starting team. “I didn’t play much in the first half of the season. After that I had good conversations with the trainer about how I could develop. I think the entire staff was important for that; they helped me a lot.”
