Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has regularly flirted with Max Verstappen in recent months. At Red Bull they are done with that, but Wolff keeps going. He states that Verstappen currently holds the key to the driver market.

Verstappen still has a long-term contract with Red Bull Racing, but he was still linked with a transfer. This has to do with the unrest within Red Bull Racing, which in turn caused many rumors. Since Lewis Hamilton is leaving Mercedes after this year, a seat will become available there. Wolff keeps all options open, and he sees Verstappen as a possibility.

Possibilities

Verstappen previously stated that he does not want to leave, and this was also echoed by the Red Bull top. Wolff denied that talks are planned this week. Wolff remains mysterious to the international media: “We have discussed all the possibilities. I want to be open and honest with everyone and not make it seem as if we are playing chess with people. We don’t do that. We want to take our time and also Let’s see what Max will do. Carlos was strong in Miami, for example, so we are in observation mode for the time being.”

Key to the market

However, Wolff also knows that it is not that easy to loose Verstappen from Red Bull. However, the Austrian continues to point the finger at the Dutch world champion: “I think that for all teams Max is really the key to the market. I’ve said it before, if I were him, I wouldn’t leave before 2025 in any case. At the moment However, it is his turn and he may not even have to choose. In that case, everything will continue as it is now.”
