Dick Schreuder is not in discussions with Ajax and Feyenoord to become the new trainer there. The Dutch coach became champions at the third level of Spain with CD Castellón last weekend, after previously bringing PEC Zwolle to the Eredivisie.

In recent weeks, Kenneth Perez, Johan Derksen and Aad de Mos, among others, mentioned Schreuder’s name as successor to John van ‘t Schip and Arne Slot respectively. However, Castellón’s trainer has not yet been approached by one of the two top clubs in the Netherlands, he tells ESPN. “You get a lot of things, but I have cut myself off from it. There is nothing going on at the moment. I have completely focused on this club (Castellón, ed.). I took this step, while for others it was a risk. You will work at the third level. That also gives me extra pressure.”

Schreuder feels very much at home in Castellón de la Plana, where Castellón plays. “This club is very much alive here. The people have a certain passion. In this city they crave success. People have abused the club, so I’m happy that I could contribute to the promotion.”

Dick Schreuder is the older brother of Alfred Schreuder. The latter was previously an assistant coach at Ajax, after which he started working as head coach in the 2022-2023 season. However, that did not go as planned: after just under seven months, Alfred left. Dick, in turn, was an assistant coach in several places, until he got the opportunity at PEC as head coach. He did and continues to do a creditable job at PEC and Castellón.
