World football association FIFA has assessed the two remaining bids for the 2027 Women’s World Cup and Brazil has emerged as the best.

The Brazilian bid receives four of the five points to be achieved. The joint bid from the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium received 3.7 points. An evaluation report published on Tuesday evening states that both bids meet the minimum requirements for organizing the World Cup.

The location of the World Cup will be announced on May 17. The FIFA Congress in Bangkok will then vote on whether the World Cup will be held in Brazil or in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

‘Strong all-round bid’

If the tournament were to be organized in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium, FIFA sees many advantages. The infrastructure and strong commercial position are praised. Furthermore, the World Football Association speaks of a ‘strong all-round bid’.

The association expects that it will still have to overcome some legal hurdles if the bid is awarded to the three countries. It is not clear exactly what these are.

In Brazil there is a need to invest in infrastructure, but FIFA is very pleased with the stadiums that may be used. Several stadiums that hosted the 2014 Men’s World Cup are also slated to host World Cup matches in 2027. It would be the first time that a Women’s World Cup will be held in South America, which is also a plus for the association.
