The Judiciary Committee of the US House of Representatives is not pleased with the rejection of Andretti as a new Formula 1 team. Committee chairman Jim Jordan has asked the top of the racing class and owner Liberty Media for an explanation because he believes the refusal is “anticompetitive”. Formula 1 and Liberty have until May 21 to provide the information, according to a letter obtained by the American news channel NBC.

In January it was announced that the American team will not be allowed to enter Formula 1 as the eleventh team next season because it might not be competitive enough. “The American consumer is being harmed by this, to the benefit of the failing Formula 1 teams,” says Republican Jordan. “Limiting the number of teams in Formula 1 drives up the price of sponsoring or purchasing an existing Formula 1 team,” the investigation announcement letter said.

The Justice Committee also says that legislation is being drawn up regarding the organization of sports competitions. Political attention for Formula 1 in the United States has increased due to the growing popularity of the sport among Americans. This is partly due to the Netflix series Drive to Survive.
