‘Manchester United still wants to get rid of Ten Hag and is already talking to an ideal replacement’

Erik ten Hag’s position at Manchester United is far from certain. The former Ajax success coach will not qualify for the Champions League and participation in European football at another level is far from guaranteed. There is now plenty of speculation about a possible departure and potential successors.

According to Foot Mercato it is most likely that Manchester United will say goodbye to Ten Hag after this season. The current eighth place in the Premier League and a lack of development on the field are the reasons for this.

The French medium immediately comes up with a possible successor. While various British and German media have been talking a lot about Thomas Tuchel lately, it suggests Foot Mercato another name.

Gareth Southgate would be at the top of Manchester United’s list. Sir Jim Ratcliffe hopes to present the current England manager after next summer’s European Championship.

“The English coach is very popular internally and the technical management of the Red Devils is convinced that he is the ideal trainer to lead the club in the right direction and be the leader of the project,” Santi Aouna writes on behalf of the medium.

No agreement has yet been reached between Manchester United and Southgate, but talks are reportedly already underway between both parties. These are expected to proceed positively and so an agreement is not far away.

Should Southgate actually sign at Old Trafford and leave the England national team behind, then he will have to the Three Lions looking for a new national coach for the first time in eight years. England joined forces with Southgate in 2016, with whom, among other things, they achieved a second place at the 2021 European Championship.
