Bad luck again for Visma | Lease a Bike in the Giro d’Italia. Christophe Laporte crashed hard just before the intermediate sprint of the fifth stage. The European champion lost control of his car when he drove into a pothole or hole in the road. With quite a few abrasions, Laporte was able to get up again and get on the bike.
The exact damage to Laporte is not yet known. However, after some medical assistance, he was able to continue on his way. The Frenchman’s shirt and pants were seriously damaged, because Laporte hit the asphalt hard, and he also grabbed his shin.
The images show how Laporte, just before the first intermediate sprint of the day in Ceparana, said something to a lead-out from Kaden Groves. Just then he ran over a pothole and lost his balance. Because Laporte was driving at high speed, he crashed hard. Fortunately for Visma | Lease a Bike he could continue his way. Earlier this round, the Dutch team also lost Robert Gesink after a crash.
