A year after his sudden departure from PSV, Ruud van Nistelrooij is itching to get back to work. The former PSV coach said this in an interview with the Spanish AS. There are several Spanish clubs that have shown interest in the former striker.

“I would really like to work in Spain, but also in the other two competitions in which I have played, the Premier League and the Bundesliga,” Van Nistelrooij said in an interview. “And yes, I have spoken to some clubs in Spain.” The coach does not say which clubs are involved. The 47-year-old Van Nistelrooij played in Spain for Real Madrid (2006-2010) and for Málaga (2011-2012). He ended his career at the latter club.

Van Nistelrooij, who played for FC Den Bosch, Heerenveen, PSV, Manchester United and HSV, has been without a club since May last year after he resigned from PSV one match before the end of the competition. The trainer no longer felt fully supported.

“It was tough, because PSV is the club where I grew up and formed myself as a person and footballer,” Van Nistelrooij says in the interview. “The team did well, we were able to win a number of trophies (the Johan Cruijff Shield and the KNVB Cup, ed.), but what actually happened was a lack of trust between the club management and me, and I had no no choice but to leave.”

Van Nistelrooij finished second in the Premier League with PSV. In the last round of the previous season, Fred Rutten took over Van Nistelrooij’s duties. This season, Peter Bosz is at the helm of the Eindhoven team, who have become national champions.
