Kaj Sierhuis has suffered another serious knee injury. Fortuna Sittard’s club top scorer suffered the injury last Friday in the match against Go Ahead Eagles.

“Unfortunately, I suffered another serious knee injury last Friday. I will soon undergo surgery for this,” Sierhuis shared on Thursday. He was carried off the field on a stretcher just before the end against Go Ahead.

For the 26-year-old Sierhuis, it is the third time that he has been sidelined with a serious knee injury. In the youth of Ajax, he was already out for three months in the 2016/2017 season. And in the 2021/2022 season, Sierhuis tore his anterior cruciate ligament as a player for Heracles Almelo.

This season, Sierhuis played an important role in the rise of Fortuna Sittard, which is in eleventh place in the Eredivisie. The striker scored twelve times. He scored seven of those twelve goals after the winter break.

Without Sierhuis, Fortuna Sittard will play the last matches this Eredivisie season against national champions PSV and Heracles Almelo. There is nothing at stake anymore for Fortuna. Enforcement has been a fact for some time, while the play-offs for European football are no longer feasible.
