Graham Potter has decided not to become Ajax’s new coach. The Englishman and the Amsterdam club have had discussions recently, but the coach does not think that Ajax is the right club for him now.

Since the announced departure of John van ‘t Schip, the Amsterdam formation has been looking for a trainer for the next season. Many names have already been discussed, but Potter’s name is worthless. The English coach, who gained a good reputation through his work at Brighton & Hove Albion, among others, has decided not to work at Ajax, transfer expert David Ornstein reports on Twitter and via The Athletic.

Potter is said to have been impressed by the Amsterdam club, but does not think that the current project is really tailor-made for him. After his good performances at Brighton, the coach was given a chance at Chelsea in 2022, but he was completely unsuccessful. The London club had just spent many millions on new players and it proved difficult for the coach to forge a whole. After just under eight months and a meager number of points per match (1.42), the 48-year-old Potter was allowed to leave again.

After Potter’s cancellation, Ajax must turn its attention to other candidates. A name that is mentioned a lot is that of Francesco Farioli, a 35-year-old Italian who is performing well this season with OGC Nice. The club is currently fifth in Ligue 1. Particularly striking is the defensive strength of the French team: no other team in the competition has conceded so few goals (25). However, questions are also being raised about the young age of the Italian.
