Polestar Phone officially presented

When you think of Polestar, you probably don’t immediately think of smartphones. The company is best known as a manufacturer of electric cars. For example, we interviewed Anya Ernest about the integration of Android Automotive in the Swedish manufacturer’s cars.

Nevertheless, Polestar has now presented its first smartphone in China: the Polestar Phone. This is mainly a response to Huawei and Xiaomi’s plans to make electric cars themselves. The device should offer seamless integration with Polestar vehicles. In this way, the hope is to prevent users from switching to the competitor’s ecosystem.

High-end specifications

The Polestar Phone is a high-end device with a 6.8-inch OLED screen. It has a long aspect ratio of 21 to 9, just like the Sony Xperia 1 V. The refresh rate is 120Hz for smooth images and the display has a brightness of 1850 nits. This should allow you to read well in all circumstances.

The beating heart is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, which ensures excellent performance. There is 16GB of RAM and 1 terabyte of storage for all your files. Polestar also promises various AI functions, such as generating images and summarizing texts.

The battery has a capacity of 5050 mAh and charges wirelessly with a maximum of 50 watts. We couldn’t yet find out how quickly you can fill up battery juice with a wire. There are three lenses on the back: a 50 megapixel main camera, a 13 megapixel wide-angle lens for wider pictures and a telephoto lens for zooming in. It has a resolution of 10 megapixels. The front camera shoots 32 megapixel selfies.

The Polestar Phone was developed in collaboration with the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Meizu. In terms of specifications, it is even identical to the Meizu 21 Pro. Polestar puts a lot of emphasis on the appearance of the phone. That is very minimalist, with very thin screen edges and hardly any bells or whistles. The device weighs 214 grams, is water and dust resistant thanks to the IP68 certification and is only available in white.

Only in China?

For the time being, the Polestar Phone will only officially appear in China. This undoubtedly has to do with the aforementioned plans of Xiaomi and Huawei. The smartphone has a suggested retail price of more than $1,000. It seems unlikely that he will come to the Netherlands later.
