Windows 11 now actually has ads in the start menu

--

Microsoft shows advertisements for apps in the Windows 11 start menu. The feature previously appeared in a test version of the system, but is now really being rolled out.

Microsoft announced this in a blog post. Ads appear in the latest version of Windows 11 in the “Recommended” section of the Start menu. According to Microsoft, this concerns a limited number of apps from selected developers. It is not known which apps are involved.

Switch off

Earlier this month it was discovered that Microsoft is working on such an advertising feature. It was then clear that the function could also be turned off. That is still possible in the final version.

To disable the app ads, go to Settings, then to Personal Settings and then to Start Menu. Here you can disable the Recommended button.

Microsoft is pushing more and more

Microsoft also plans to show ads on the Settings homepage. This is evident from the latest Beta Channel Insider build of Windows 11, which was released on Monday. You will see advertisements for Microsoft’s own Game Pass subscription.

The company is also increasingly pushing its AI assistant Copilot into Windows. In test versions of Windows, Copilot is even used to start your computer. Some users are not happy with the constant push of Copilot and other services.
