I assume that @djwice is referring to authors who work as freelancers, who write pieces for a medium under certain conditions. These conditions are usually laid down in a contract that specifically states what the medium may do with the freelancer’s work, such as publishing it in a newspaper, on a website, or using it for promotional purposes. However, the use of these texts for training artificial intelligence, such as AI models, often falls outside the standard contractual agreements or is not specifically mentioned by name. Which can lead to (legal) problems, but in this agreement that is more the problem of the Financial Times than of OpenAI. Or it must be explicitly stated that all rights are transferred.

@arnoudwokke, although you are not a freelancer, do you have any idea whether articles on Tweakers, for example, can be automatically used for such purposes, or would they have to be renegotiated per freelancer? This takes into account/assumes the fact that the copyright on the texts written by you (read: the editors) anyway lies with Tweakers as an employee.
