Mobapad, a manufacturer of Switch accessories, has posted more information about the as-yet unannounced new Nintendo console online.

The description of the as yet unnamed successor to the Nintendo Switch can be found on the company’s website. For example, it is claimed that the screen of the hybrid console – which is approximately 8 inches in size – has a resolution of 1080p, instead of the 720p resolution of the screen on the current Switch. This does not necessarily mean that all games actually run in 1080p, although the device probably uses Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) to upscale games where necessary.

Mobapad also claims that the console will be backward compatible with current Switch games, although Switch 2 cartridges logically do not fit in the current Switch. These may have a slightly different shape, similar to the Nintendo DS and 3DS cartridges.

Pro Controllers and Joy-Cons from the current Switch could also be used with the Switch 2. Last week’s rumors about new Joy-Cons that are linked to the console via magnetism are also reported here. The new Joy-Cons would also have extra buttons – there would be an extra button on the back of the Joy-Cons, as well as under the Home button. Also, the SL and SR buttons are now said to be metallic.

Finally, Mobapad reports that the dock to connect the Switch 2 to the television still has a USB-C opening. However, a 4K output would now also be supported. The ‘kickstand’ for storing the new console could be adjusted more easily.

All of the above has not yet been officially confirmed. After all, the console hasn’t even been announced yet. However, it is likely that Nintendo has been working on the device for quite some time.
