The next Ubuntu release, 24.10, will be codenamed Oracular Oriole. Canonical announces this. This version of the OS will be released sometime in October. This is an interim release that will be provided with updates for nine months.
The development of Ubuntu 24.10 is now getting underway, writes Phoronix. Developer Canonical has announced the code name. Every Ubuntu release gets a combination of an adjective and an animal name, both with the same first letter. An oriole is a bird and oracular is a synonym for ‘enigmatic’ or ‘mysterious’. The current release, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Noble Numbat, was released on April 25.
It is not yet known which new features Ubuntu 24.10 will bring. Typically, new releases get at least new versions of the Linux kernel and the Gnome desktop environment. Ubuntu 24.10 will be released sometime in October; the exact release date is not yet known.
