The Rabbit R1 appears to run on Android and everything it does and can do is done via a single app. In short, the Rabbit R1 is an Android app in a nice box. This website got the APK (the app’s file) and got it working on a Google Pixel 6a. After some minor adjustments, they were able to start the app and use it.
The volume buttons acted the same as the scroll wheel on the Rabbit R1. In the video below you can see that they can even ask a question to the app.
This observation is ‘grist to the mill’ of everyone who thinks gadgets like the Rabbit R1 and the Humane AI Pin are nonsense. All functionalities can simply run on a smartphone and why would you purchase a separate device for that?
Rabbit R1 response
The CEO of the company behind this gadget obviously disagrees with the above. In a long statement they emphasize that the Rabbit R1 runs on its own operating system Rabbit OS with its own language model. Just because you can get the APK running on a smartphone does not give you access to all the functionalities of the device.
The Rabbit R1 is now being delivered to the first buyers. The first reviews are critical, including the battery life was not good. In any case, the first update of the device has already fixed this.
