Nintendo delivered 13 percent fewer Switch consoles last year than in 2022 – Gaming – News

Nintendo shipped 15.70 million consoles last fiscal year. That is almost 13 percent less than a year earlier, when it delivered 17.97 million. The number of games sold also fell by 6.7 percent.

Nintendo says in its annual report that it sold 199.67 million games last fiscal year. Although both console and game sales have fallen, the company had predicted earlier this year that it would only ship 15.5 million units of the Switch. This fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025, Nintendo expects to sell 13.5 million consoles. The expected decline is due to the fact that the Switch has been on the market for more than seven years.

Last fiscal year, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was the best-selling first-party game for the Switch. It sold 20.61 million copies. Other games that did well were Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which sold 13.44 million copies and Pikmin 4, which sold 3.48 million copies. Nintendo says Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also sold 8.18 million units, thanks in part to the Mario movie released last April. A total of 31 games sold more than a million times. Last year there were 35.

In total, Nintendo had a turnover of 1671.8 billion yen last financial year, equivalent to approximately 10.05 billion euros. That is an increase of 4.4 percent compared to a year earlier. Nintendo recorded a net profit of 490.6 billion yen, an increase of 13.4 percent. For the coming fiscal year, Nintendo forecasts revenue of 1,350 billion yen and net profit of 300 billion yen. That’s because the Switch is coming to the end of its life cycle. However, Nintendo will announce the successor to the console by the end of this financial year at the latest.
