Apple has announced Final Cut Pro for iPad 2, which allows users to wirelessly connect four iPhones or iPads to an iPad to film with four cameras simultaneously. The feature works with the new Final Cut Camera app.

The function that allows users to film with up to four cameras simultaneously is called Live Multicam, and is intended for filmmakers who want to make films with multiple cameras simultaneously. The feature requires users to install the new Final Cut Camera app on the iPhones and iPads that want to use the filmmaker. Users can control those iPhones and iPads remotely with the Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 app, to adjust focus, zoom or exposure, for example.

The Final Cut Camera can not only be used in conjunction with Live Multicam, but can also be used as a standalone camera app. This allows users to adjust additional things compared to the standard camera app, such as the ISO value, shutter speed and using focus peaking.

Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 will be available “later this spring” as a free upgrade for current users. For new users, the app costs 5 euros per month or 49 euros per year. This app requires an iPad with M1 SoC or higher and iPadOS 17.4 or newer. Final Cut Camera is free, also coming this spring, and requires an iPhone Xs or later with iOS 17.4 or later, or an iPad model with iPadOS 17.4 or later.
