I partly agree with you, I cannot hear the difference between headphones costing 350 and 1000 euros. But in my opinion there is at least as much difference in quality between say 150 and 350 euros as between 20 and 150 euros.

I wasn’t convinced at first either, until my 20 euro headset from Philips broke down, then I bought a 130 euro Sennheiser HD456, certainly not a top model, but the sound made a world of difference. Now I have a Sennheiser HD680 precision for LAN parties and so on, which is a little more comfortable than the HD456 and also provides slightly better sound to my ears.
Of course there is a bit of Sennheiser tax, but I think that’s not too bad. Even with the cheaper models, the parts that matter are made of steel and can usually be easily reordered if something breaks.

Likewise, the detachable cord is a plus for me. It uses standard plugs, so you can easily replace it with a piece of string from Hema if you want, and every audio store has those types of cords in stock in tons of flavors.
And because there is no amplifier and DAC in the headphones themselves, I can also choose them myself.
