Death toll in bus accident in Germany adjusted from five to four | Abroad

The bus crash on a highway near the German city of Leipzig has claimed the lives of not five, but four people, police report. One of the victims appears not to have died. This victim does have life-threatening injuries.

Six people were seriously injured in the accident involving the bus from transport company FlixBus, a police spokesperson said. 29 people suffered minor injuries.

Police are still trying to identify the fatalities. The police are investigating whether negligence was the cause of the accident. According to FlixBus, the driver has complied with all rules regarding driving and rest times. The driver survived the accident.

The bus left the highway around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday and crashed into trees along the road. Then the bus overturned.

The accident happened on the A9 between Berlin and Leipzig. The crashed bus was on its way from Berlin to Zurich. There were 53 passengers and 2 drivers on board.

The highway was closed in both directions after the accident. It was not until Wednesday evening that the police investigation and clean-up work were completed and the road reopened.
