The 270th edition of the DUIC newspaper is out and is distributed throughout the city.

It is December 31, 2021. While there is a lockdown and a complete fireworks ban, Utrecht is preparing for the New Year. On this day, the Utrecht Music School, Theater School Utrecht and Dance Center Utrecht come together. Signatures are being signed. DOMUS is founded and the lease contract with the municipality for Domplein 4-5 is signed. Everyone seems satisfied. Now, more than three years later, there is almost nothing left of the dream for the future that people had back then. The municipality is trying to get DOMUS out of the building through legal procedures. In the new DUIC newspaper a story about how there seems to be a curse on the monumental building.

De Pomp, an initiative of Kimmarah Beeuwkes, Joep de Jong, Marlou Kleijnen and Danny Simon, does not have to close its doors until 2025. The catering business in the former gas station on Croeselaan should actually close this year, but it was recently agreed ‘after three years of talking, pleading and hoping’ that this will only have to happen a year later. The owners and the neighborhood, among others, are very happy with this.

The Voortuin has been a regular fixture for many Utrecht residents for many years. The café at the beginning of the Voorstraat, with a view of the Neude, has been there for about thirteen years now. The terrace with the well-known colored lights and the black awning above is almost always full. After all these years, the team thought it was time to ‘expand the family’ a few buildings away. The Achtertuin opened at the beginning of this month on the site of the former Café Het Hart.

This and much more can be read in the 270th edition. This newspaper, full of stories about the city, can be picked up for free throughout the region. Check this handy map to see where this is possible near you.
