Rijkswaterstaat expects an early and busy rush hour today

--

Rijkswaterstaat expects large crowds on the road early this afternoon due to the long Easter weekend. Last year, a traffic jam record of 933 kilometers was recorded on the Thursday before Good Friday, due to a combination of extra traffic, bad weather conditions and a closed Kethel tunnel. In 2022 there would be 430 kilometers of traffic jams.

Many people have a long weekend off because of Easter and are expected to head out early. Changeable weather is also expected, which could further increase crowds. In combination with the normal traffic on Thursday evening, Rijkswaterstaat therefore expects a very busy rush hour that can start as early as noon.

Road users must also take extra traffic into account during the weekend, especially on Easter Monday. Recreational areas in particular, such as forests, lakes and beaches, are likely to attract more visitors. But it can also be busier on the national highways around amusement parks and furniture boulevards. Traffic towards Utrecht and Breda must take into account a closure between the Hooipolder junction and the Gorinchem junction from Friday 9:00 PM to Monday 5:00 AM. This leads to major diversions, as can be seen on the map.
