Meta’s platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and Messenger, suffered a major outage on Wednesday evening. Reports came from all over the world about problems with the applications. WhatsApp was also affected by an outage. The faults have now been resolved.

Messaging service WhatsApp suffered a national outage on Wednesday evening around 8 p.m. Users could not send or receive messages. The Allestoringen website showed that the number of complaints started to rise around that time to almost 200,000. The cause of the malfunction is not yet known.

Around 8:45 PM, the outage seemed to have been resolved and users could send and receive messages again. Most disruptions have been reported in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. In Limburg, a peak was noted in Venlo and the Parkstad region.

According to Allestoringen, there were also technical problems on Wednesday evening at Facebook and Instagram, which are also owned by the American company Meta. Those services appear to be working again. Meta has not yet responded.

Last month, Facebook, Messenger and Instagram also suffered a global outage. According to parent company Meta, this was caused by a “technical problem”.
