The employee of a mental health institution in Heerlen who was stabbed last week died from her injuries on Tuesday. The police reported this on Wednesday morning. The woman was stabbed last Monday afternoon on the grounds of the institution on John F. Kennedylaan. A short time later, the police arrested a 29-year-old woman from Heerlen as a suspect.

A “treatment relationship” existed in the past between the victim and the suspect, a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service said. The suspect will appear in court on Thursday. After the death of the victim, she is no longer suspected of attempted murder or manslaughter, but of murder or manslaughter, the Public Prosecution Service spokesperson said.

After the stabbing incident, the police initially reported that the victim was a passerby who had been stabbed on the street, but that turned out to be incorrect. It later became clear that the victim worked at the mental health institution. That institution, Mondriaan, says that employees are deeply saddened by the death of their colleague.
