Evers & Evers Glass and Interior Glass recently won the Construction and Infrastructure Inclusive Award. What makes the victory even special for the Helmond glass company is that this prize was awarded for the first time. The initiative ‘There is room for everyone’ – which uses a buddy system – was very popular with the jury. Owner Suzanne Evers explains more about this way of working: “We are committed to inclusivity.”

The prize was presented on April 11 in The Color Kitchen in Utrecht. Organizers of the event were SER Diversity in Business and Bouwend Nederland. The aim of the award ceremony is to inspire other companies to commit to an inclusive society. A theme that Evers & Evers Glass and Interior Glass has been championing for years. “We are committed to inclusivity. We have been working on our buddy system since 2016 and it works well,” says Evers.

The buddy system means that someone who is at a distance from the labor market is linked to an experienced employee of Evers & Evers Glas and Interieurglas. “For example, we let a person with autism work with an employee who has been employed for many years. An evaluation takes place at the end of the day every working day. What went well and what could be improved? We also discuss expectations every day, so that everyone knows exactly what needs to be done. That creates clarity and trust,” explains the owner.

Pretty special
The buddy system stands for one-on-one guidance. Every day we discuss what needs to be done. The Helmond company has been using this method since 2016. Successfully! “We have been working with this system since 2016. We were able to help seven people who were at a distance from the labor market. In fact, all these people still work for us. Everyone got stuck. Pretty special, right?”

The success of the buddy system has not gone unnoticed. An invitation for brunch recently arrived. Whether the team would like to have something to eat with Minister of Social Affairs and Employment Karien van Gennip. “There is political interest in the buddy system. During the brunch we will explain how we work and how other organizations can apply our formula in their business operations,” says Evers.

Done together
The team at Evers & Evers Glass and Interior Glass is very happy. “Always nice to win something. We did it all together and that makes it so beautiful. It really is a team effort!”
