Pinkpop’s prices over the years

--

While years ago you could get a weekend ticket for around €100, now that is not even enough to purchase a day ticket for Pinkpop. Prices in festival land have been rising sharply for some time and this trend will continue this year. In this article we take a closer look at the Pinkpop price increase in recent years (read at your own risk; we are not liable for any pre-festival depression).

Many festival goers may currently be at their peak in terms of anticipation for Pinkpop 2024. After all, the acts are known and the timetable has already been dropped. But unfortunately, high peaks are often accompanied by deep valleys, and this valley may come sooner than expected. Because while you are still in your timetable puzzle frenzy and you can already see yourself swinging with Måneskin or reliving your youth with Avril Lavigne (when Pinkpop was still cheap), we will immediately take you out of this dream and back to the harsh reality.

Even though the Pinkpop grounds may look idyllic during the anticipation, when you find out how much the prices at Pinkpop have risen in the past few years, the performance of the German brass band MEUTE is a little less sunny.

The ticket price

An entrance ticket can come in handy to visit Pinkpop. If you do not have the talent of S10 and would rather not work at the festival, you will still have to use your debit card to enter the festival grounds in Landgraaf.

As we see in the graph above, in 2006 you paid just under €100 for 3 days of Pinkpop. This is now almost 3x(!) as much. Painful, but true.

What is even more striking is that over the past 6 years the ticket price has risen approximately as much as the ticket price in the first 12 years (calculated from 2006). Yet, in percentage terms, the largest increase occurred in 2007. Then the ticket was increased by 1/5th of the price of the year before. Yet today, a ticket price of €120 for a Pinkpop weekend only occurs in our dreams.

If we only look at the euros, we find the largest increase in 2018. That edition, the prices of weekend tickets for Pinkpop increased by €35 compared to the previous year.

Weekend tickets for this year are ‘only’ €15 more expensive than those for 2023. To stay at Pinkpop for the entire weekend you now pay €295.

The coin price

Naturally, there is good food and drink at a festival like Pinkpop. Unfortunately, you will not find a food bank on the festival site, so you are forced to purchase Pinkpop tokens that you can then exchange for a delicious meal in the Kalm Aan Laan.

Unlike the ticket price, the coin price only started to increase in 2018. After years of stability, this currency suddenly increased in price 6 years ago. That year you paid €2.71 for a coin at Pinkpop.

In the previous edition, the Pinkpop token set a new record of €3.50 (fun fact: this was the entrance fee (in guilders) during the first edition). It is not yet known what you will pay for a coin this year. However, looking at the tickets, there is a good chance that these Pinkpop prices will also increase. So anyone who wants to enjoy all the food and drinks that Pinkpop has to offer in addition to the performances will have to save money.

Don’t you want to think about which kidney you have to sell to fund Pinkpop this year? Then go back in time with all the posters from the history of the festival.
