During a major inspection of garages in the Utrecht district of Overvecht yesterday, materials used in committing explosive raids were found, the municipality reported today. Explosives were found in a garage, causing between 12 and 14 homes to be evacuated. The Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) also arrived on site.

The inspection was a joint action by the municipality, police and customs, among others. About sixty garage boxes have been opened. Two of them contained suspicious cars, one of which was probably used in explosive attacks. Items for the production and trafficking of drugs were also found in the garages. By order of Mayor Sharon Dijksma, four garages have been closed immediately.

Mayor Sjors Fröhlich today closed a building on the Mijlweg in Vianen for a period of six months. Customs and police found raw materials and objects used for the production of hard drugs there at the end of March.

Three people have been injured in an accident between two motorcycles. The accident happened around 2:30 PM on the Doornseweg (N227) near Leusden. It probably went wrong when a motorcyclist tried to merge and hit another motorbike.

There was a driver on one motorcycle and a driver and co-driver on the other motorcycle. All three people were injured and taken to hospital. Nothing is known about the severity of the injuries, but all victims were approachable, a police spokesperson said.

An air ambulance arrived on the scene and landed on the cycle path next to the road. The road is closed in both directions. The police are investigating how the accident could have happened.

A blind woman was hit by a car in Utrecht two weeks ago. She suffered several broken bones. Her guide dog was also hit, but was unharmed.

Two people were injured in an accident between a scheduled bus and a van in De Meern this morning. They were taken to hospital for evaluation, a police spokesperson said.

The ANWB expects an extra busy evening rush hour due to the start of the May holidays. The most delays are expected on the A2 and A27 from Utrecht to the south and on the A12 between Arnhem and the German border.

A van from the food bank in Houten went up in flames last night. The car was parked in front of the food bank at De Poort in Houten. The van completely burned out.

When the fire brigade arrived on the scene, the van was already on fire and could not be saved. Firefighters worked for more than an hour to completely extinguish the fire.

During a speed check in Utrecht, a driver drove 99 km/h too fast. The driver was driving at 149 km/h, where 50 km/h was permitted. The Utrecht Center police reported this on Instagram. The driver’s driver’s license has been confiscated.
