Belgian police have searched the office of German MEP Maximilian Krah in Brussels. This happened at the request of the German authorities. Two weeks ago, a Krah employee was arrested on suspicion of espionage for China.
Krah, who is the party leader for the radical right party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) in the European elections, confirms the message on X and emphasizes that the investigation does not affect him or other employees.
Jian Guo, the AfD employee who was arrested, is suspected of having passed on various documents from the European Parliament to China. His home was also searched earlier.
Krah did not want to know anything about resigning, but after pressure from the party he did say that he would immediately dismiss the employee. Previously, number 2 on the AfD’s list, Petr Bystron, was already discredited. He is said to have accepted money from a pro-Russian network. The party will continue to support him.
