In the states of Nebraska and Iowa in the Midwestern United States, several tornadoes leveled hundreds of homes and a local airport. Five people were injured.

One of the tornadoes ripped through an area in Nebraska, leaving a trail of destruction for miles. A building containing about seventy people at the time collapsed. Three people were injured and several people became trapped. Authorities said everyone was able to be evacuated and the injuries were not life-threatening.

Tornado flattens homes in Nebraska

A little further away, in the city of Omaha, two people were injured. Omaha airport was also hit by a tornado, passengers in the terminal were taken to storm shelters. Part of the airport has been completely destroyed. After a closure of about an hour, air traffic was restarted.

Images clearly show the devastation left behind by the tornadoes. Houses have been largely destroyed, and some buildings are completely destroyed. Emergency services have been deployed in large numbers. They search the houses for any victims.

The American Weather Institute still warns of heavy storms and thunderstorms, but only in the southern state of Texas.
