Today is the third day of September and that means: Prinsjesdag! It is the traditional opening of the parliamentary year, in which King Willem-Alexander reads the plans of the cabinet in the Speech from the Throne. Due to the lengthy renovation of the Binnenhof, King Willem-Alexander will read the Speech from the Throne this year in the Koninklijke Schouwburg in The Hague, once intended as a city palace for the brother-in-law of Stadholder Willem V. Princess Amalia will also ride in the Glass Coach this year, who is now eighteen and thus the first heir to the throne under constitutional law. It also looks back to the first time her father and grandmother attended Prinsjesdag. The presentation from The Hague is in the hands of Saïda Maggé; Malou Petter stands among the audience.
Million dollar bill
After the Speech from the Throne and the tour, which ends with the ‘balcony scene’ at Noordeinde Palace, it is the turn of Finance Minister Sigrid Kaag, who presents the budget for the coming year to the House of Representatives with the Budget Memorandum. Presenter Rob Trip and political commentator Arjan Noorlander van news hour gauge the police reactions afterwards, from the studio in Hilversum. Political interpreter Xander van der Wulp talks with Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Hague reporter Marleen de Rooy has Deputy Prime Minister Kaag and Social Affairs Minister Karien van Gennip in front of the microphone.
