Carlo Boszhard sits with the experts after the final discussions. It was another special season, so there is plenty to catch up on. “Anne, you have bad news. It’s about Jeffrey and Jerney. What happened there?” Carlo asks expert Anne Campagne. “They decided to split up,” she says. “Jeffrey had been on holiday and he noticed that he had not missed Jerney. From there they started the conversation and decided to pull the plug after all.”

And so there is only one couple left who did succeed, Jeppe and Jantine. The experts should take a critical look at themselves, Carlo believes. “Did you make any mistakes?” he asks. “Yes, we definitely missed things.” According to expert Patrick van Veen, things go wrong with older couples who are alone for longer. They find it more difficult to accept something from someone else, because they have not had to take anyone into account for a while.

The experts will use a new tool next season, because what is often missing from matched couples is attraction. “We are working with a university of applied sciences to see whether we can remove the unconscious part in ‘what do you find attractive?’ can measure,” says Patrick.

The candidates all learned something from the program, even though it was not always successful. The sun started to shine extra for Bastiaan after the recordings. “Someone I’ve had contact with in the past sent me a message asking: ‘Would you like to go out for a drink soon?’ I responded to that. So we are going to discover that quietly and very secretly.”
