On 1 keeps a seat at the talk show table available for Geert Wilders until he joins. But the PVV leader does not want to come by for the time being, presenter Sven Kockelmann said in the program on Friday.

“We live in a constitutional state and it is quite common for political parties that are represented in parliament, especially if they are the largest group there, to also provide explanations and explanations in traditional media,” Kockelmann said.

Wilders would also have been invited this week. “The answer is usually no. Look, there is an empty chair. We will leave that chair unoccupied until you come,” Kockelmann addressed the politician.

The PVV leader still has a few weeks to respond to this, he emphasized On 1-presenter. “You are very welcome to provide text and explanations for the choices you make in the House of Representatives.”

Wilders has said several times that he would prefer to abolish public broadcasting and regularly criticizes the media.

PVV is seen as a threat to press freedom in the Netherlands

The annual international press freedom index of the organization Reporters Sans Frontières (RSF) was released on Friday. That authoritative journalist organization explicitly mentions the PVV as a threat to press freedom in the Netherlands, because Wilders’ party “wants to abolish public broadcasting and attacks the free media”.

The Netherlands rose two places in the rankings, but RSF emphasizes that “the Netherlands’ new position does not reflect a real improvement in press freedom.” The Dutch trade union NVJ invited Wilders several times in recent years to talk about his statements and positions, but he never responded.

VVD, NSC and BBB, who are now talking to Wilders about a new cabinet, say they are not concerned about the attitude of the PVV leader. The PVV did not respond to questions from it on Friday ANP about the RSF report.
