In the Rogier metro station in Brussels, a man died on Saturday morning after he became trapped in the roller shutter at the entrance. It is already the fourth time in a short time that someone gets stuck in such a roller shutter.

The Brussels fire brigade was called out at around 4:30 am on Saturday morning for a person being trapped in the roller shutter at the entrance to the metro station. The emergency services were able to free the man, after which a resuscitation attempt was started. In vain. The victim died on the spot.

The exact circumstances of the incident are still under investigation. Earlier this week, the fire brigade had to free a man after his leg was trapped in the roller shutter of the Hallepoort metro station. A week earlier, the same thing happened to a man in Sint-Gillisvoorplein metro station. And in March a man was trapped in the Naamsepoort metro station. In these three cases, the victims sustained injuries.

According to fire service spokesperson Walter Derieuw, it is striking that this is already the fourth incident in two months. “Before, we have rarely, if ever, had such an intervention,” it sounds.
