Last weekend, dog Fleur died horribly in Dendermonde, Belgium, after the owner threw her through the window.

The owners, a couple who had only had the animal for a week, initially claimed that she had died in a collision. But it soon became apparent that there was more going on. The couple risks up to five years in prison and a fine of up to 800,000 euros.

Fleur was six months old and a cross between a Chihuahua and a Boomer. “She had been with her new owners since March 12,” says Chantal Verhagen, the previous owner. “We thought the dog would be happy there, but it soon turned out that this was not true. We are in enormous shock.”

The woman received messages about the fact that they were already tired of the dog again. It’s not clear what went wrong on Sunday, but the owners threw the dog down from the fourth floor. The heavy blow killed the animal immediately.

The owners said the dog escaped and was hit by a car, but there were few external signs of a collision. The police immediately had doubts and after investigation it turned out that the dog had been thrown down.

Chantal shared the messages she received from the owner with the police and made a statement.
