WILLEMSTAD – PNP Member of Parliament Gwendell Mercelina went to the laboratory this morning to take a drug test. The test focused on traces of marijuana or cocaine in his system. His going to the lab is a response to all possible insinuations towards him that he had used drugs during a business trip to Colombia. The accusation came from fellow party member and fellow parliamentarian Corinne Djaoen-Genaro

After taking his test, Mercelina said he didn’t need the test because he knows himself, but the moment slander happens and people have to lie to cover the truth, it becomes necessary to take these steps. He reminded everyone that before he became a politician, he had a professional career.

Mercelina further highlighted his clean record, both professionally and personally, stating: “I have never used drugs and never will. As a progressive politician and member of the PNP, it is essential to make a distinction. We must start the discussion about morality in politics.”

Following Mercelina’s action, ruling party Movementu Futuro Kòrsou (MFK) has called on all its ministers and parliamentarians to undergo a drug test tomorrow.

The management of MFK emphasizes the necessity of this measure. A press statement states that it is crucial that every political organization represented in the Council of Ministers or Parliament undergoes this test to demonstrate to the people of Curaçao that their leaders Drug Free are.

Mercelina’s test turned out to be negative.
