EMMEN – Queen Máxima beamed as usual during her visit to Emmen. Like no other, she knows how to combine South American warmth with Dutch conviviality. However, she still had some golden tips for the village council.
“It was a really fantastic King’s Day in this nice village in Twente,” Queen Máxima replied when asked whether she had had a nice day in Drenthe. According to her, the enthusiasm of the people of Drenthe was heart-warming: “I think it is very unfair that this part of Twente is called Achterhoek. I think they are in the middle of life.”
But Queen Máxima doesn’t think everything about Emmen is fantastic: “After the official festivities I wanted to do some shopping with my daughters, but that was very disappointing. We were only able to buy a pair of underpants and socks for Willem at Hema. Normally we leave a city with bags full of clothes, whether it’s New York, London or Paris. To start with, I would recommend Emmen to open a branch of Bijenkorf. Then the Chanel and Burberry stores will come automatically.”
