An ambulance in Catalonia, one of the regions where deaths occurred

NOS Newstoday, 04:16

In Spain yesterday, strong gusts of wind killed people who fell into the sea in several parts of the country.

In the northwest in the Asturias region, on the Atlantic coast, two people were caught in different places by a high wave. Code orange was in effect in the region due to the strong wind and waves up to 7 meters high were expected.

A British tourist looked at the meter-high waves at San Esteban de Pravia and was swept away. His body was found in the water about 40 minutes later, El Mundo reports.

Resuscitation

In the municipality of Cudillero, less than 7 kilometers away, a woman was swept away by the waves as she walked through the fishing port around the same time. A fishing boat was able to get her out of the water, but resuscitation was of no avail.

Two people also drowned near the Mediterranean city of Tarragona: a Moroccan boy aged 16 and a German tourist who tried to save him. According to El Mundo, the boy was playing on the rocks and fell into the water.

Warnings were also issued in other parts of the country of strong winds, heavy rain and high waves. In the cities of Ronda and Seville, among others, a procession that is traditionally held on Maundy Thursday could not take place due to severe weather.
