British police have arrested three men in connection with the deaths of five migrants. They drowned yesterday while attempting to cross the Channel between France and England.
The three are suspected of facilitating illegal migration. They have Sudanese and South Sudanese nationalities and are believed to be living illegally in Britain.
During the crossing, 112 migrants tried to reach Great Britain. Things went wrong along the way when panic broke out for an unknown reason. Some of those on board were crushed and people also jumped into the water. Among the dead is a 7-year-old girl.
Help denied
Of the 112 people who made the trip, 47 were rescued from the water by French emergency services. They were landed at Wimereux.
According to the French authorities, the rest of the group did not want help and sailed on. They arrived in Great Britain and were interrogated there about the tragedy.
The French coast guard brought 47 people back to the French mainland.
