Three British soldiers injured after horses stampede in central London | Abroad

--

Three of the four soldiers who were thrown from their wild horses during an exercise in London on Wednesday have suffered injuries. A fourth soldier escaped unscathed. The horses have been captured.

The horses are part of the so-called Household Cavalry. That is one of the oldest parts of the British army. The regiment often sees action at public events in London, such as the coronation of the King.

The soldiers were conducting an exercise prior to a planned inspection. During that exercise, some horses were startled by construction noises, writes the BBC. Five then bolted, causing four soldiers to be thrown from the saddle. The fifth horse had no rider.

The horses caused enormous chaos in central London. During their mile-long flight, they came into contact with cars and city buses. Two horses are said to have suffered injuries.

The animals could be returned to the stables in Hyde Park at the end of the afternoon. There they were examined by a veterinarian.

In addition to the three soldiers, a cyclist was also treated in hospital for injuries.
