The US state of Arizona has charged eighteen former advisers to Donald Trump for attempting to reverse his 2020 election defeat. The former president himself is considered an “unindicted accomplice,” the state’s justice department reports.

Among the defendants are Trump’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani and his then chief of staff Mark Meadows. They are not mentioned by name, but court documents indicate that it concerns them.

Trump and his associates attempted to overturn current President Joe Biden’s victory in several states. In Arizona, Biden narrowly won with a difference of 10,457 votes.

Arizona is the fourth state to charge people from the Trump camp with attempts to thwart the election results. Nevada, Michigan and Georgia did this before. These are all swing states, which are very important for the outcome during the elections.

Giuliani was previously convicted in Georgia for false claims he made about the elections. He must pay damages of more than 148 million dollars (almost 136 million euros).

Trump himself has not been charged in Arizona. There are cases against the former president in Georgia, Florida and the capital Washington, among others, including for election fraud.
