Two men arrested in robbery case in which doctor was shot at home

In the case in which a 52-year-old doctor suffered a gunshot wound on April 16 during a robbery on Herman Steinbergstraat in Suriname, two suspects have been arrested by the police.

The woman was robbed of her bag containing personal items and a black-painted vehicle.

Two men dressed in camouflage jackets saw the opportunity to rob the victim in the garage of her home on Herman Steinbergstraat when she returned home. During the robbery, the woman was shot in the chest by one of the suspects.

The suspects ran into the garage.

The victim was robbed of her bag containing personal items and money. After the robbery, one of the suspects fled on foot, while the second drove away in the victim’s vehicle that was parked in the garage.

The suspect who fled on foot was probably picked up by the second, after which they left the vehicle unattended on Bolletriestraat with the engine running (photo below). The suspects continued their flight on foot towards Van ‘t Hogerhuysstraat in an unknown direction.

The victim was quickly taken away by ambulance for further treatment (photo above). The case was transferred by the Nieuwe Haven bureau to the criminal investigation department of the Capital Offenses (KD) department of the Surinamese police.

A few days after the robbery, 34-year-old DS was arrested by members of the Central Regional Assistance Team and handed over to KD. During the course of the investigation and after good detective work by the RBTP Intelligence Unit, FK(38) was identified and arrested by members of the Paramaribo Regional Assistance Team and handed over to KD for arraignment.

The investigation into this case continues.
