Four federal agents have been killed in a shooting in the American city of Charlotte, North Carolina. They were shot at when they wanted to serve an arrest warrant at a home. One of the suspects was shot dead in the gunfight.

Four officers from the local police force were injured. The condition of one of them is critical, the police department said during a press conference on Monday. A total of eight officers were fired upon.

Three officers who died were part of the US Marshals, a federal law enforcement agency that tracks down fugitives. The fourth officer worked for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

They were shot at when they wanted to serve an arrest warrant at a home. The warrant was for a convict who was allegedly in possession of a weapon. The police returned fire, and one of the suspects was shot in the front yard. He died afterwards.

The police then cleared the house and arrested two suspects. At least one of them is said to have shot at the officers.
