Italian police have seized 48 million euros worth of counterfeit banknotes at an industrial estate in Naples. Seven suspects were arrested, authorities said.
The Guardia di Finanza, a police force specialized in financial crimes, posted a video of the operation online. It shows a pallet with a large stack of fake money on it.
The notes were printed twelve side by side on 80,000 large sheets of paper. They still had to be cut out and provided with a silver-colored strip that is intended to distinguish real from fake money.
The Italian Press Agency ANSA reports that the counterfeiting workshop was under surveillance for a long time. The Italian authorities have been chasing the producers of fake money in Naples for some time. In the past five years, five workshops have been dismantled and 100 million euros worth of counterfeit money has been seized.
