Amalia goes for the money, her Belgian colleague Elizabeth goes to Harvard

--

Princess Amalia has announced that from next year she will need one and a half million to be able to perform her duties. No one knows what her duties are. In accordance with the Constitution, she is a member of the Council of State, but does not have to go there.

Her colleague Princess Elizabeth of Belgium has been admitted to the most prestigious university in the world, Harvard. This follows a successful study at the University of Oxford.

She will pursue a two-year master’s degree in public policy at Harvard. “She will end up in a group that is very diverse both geographically and socio-economically.”

After her bachelor’s degree in history and politics, she will now delve into a two-year master’s degree in public policy. Harvard belongs to the American Ivy League universities, a group of eight private universities, and is one of the most prestigious knowledge institutions in the world.

The Crown Princess is moving to the US on a Fulbright program. That’s the U.S. Department of State’s International Education Exchange Program. This year (the only one) there is an asterisk next to her name. She receives a ‘Fulbright Honorary Award’. This means that she followed the same selection procedure as the other students – with tests, an essay and a personal interview – but went to the United States without a scholarship or study grant. For other students, a grant amounts to an average of around 20,000 euros, says Elisabeth Bloxam, program director at Fulbright.
