The coolest graffiti workshops in Amsterdam

--

1. Graffiti fun

Graffitifun offers extensive graffiti workshops at various locations in the Netherlands and Belgium. The workshops – whether it concerns a children’s party, a company outing or a bachelor party – are led by experienced graffiti artists. The program includes an introduction, a design session, a practical spraying session and a tour of graffiti walls. Participants can create their own graffiti artwork and receive a certificate at the end of the workshop as proof of their participation.

Michel Steers (34) started Graffitifun in 2004 in Amsterdam-Zuidoost and is now the largest provider of graffiti workshops in Europe. “We have forty artists,” says Steers, “and we are the only graffiti provider in the Netherlands that is a recognized training company.”

Thanks to this recognition, you can also go to Graffitifun for an internship and reintegration projects. The company therefore, in addition to offering workshops, also has a social function. “We often arrive at the location an hour earlier and then clean up all the litter. We keep young people off the streets and also ensure that no problems arise in the places where we work.”

In Amsterdam, Graffitifun has its own location on the Flevoparkweg: the so-called Graffitifun Hall of Fame. “That is not a real hall, but a tolerated graffiti location.”

Prices vary per workshop, but are below the national average. Steers: “I still do this because I enjoy it, in addition to my work as an engineer in construction.”

2. Experience the art of graffiti at Straat Museum

Street Museum at the NDSM wharf offers graffiti workshops for individuals and small groups on Saturdays. The workshops start with an explanation of the use of aerosol cans and different techniques, followed by the opportunity to create your own piece to be made on shipping containers next to the museum. The workshops last one hour, cost 20 euros and are suitable for participants aged 16 and over.

There are special graffiti workshops for children aged 8 and over, for example as part of a children’s party or during special events such as 24H Noord. After an inspirational tour of the museum, children can get to work on their own work of art under the guidance of experienced teachers. These workshops last 90 minutes and cost 32.50 euros per child.

For group events, Straat Museum offers private workshops, including a visit to the museum. These workshops last 120 minutes and cost 63 euros per person. For an additional charge of 10 euros per person, participants can take a private tour of the museum.

3. Do a creative workshop of Your Cutest Graffiti on location

Your Best Graffiti offers a range of graffiti workshops, both for individuals and for groups, at various locations throughout the Netherlands, including in and around Amsterdam. These workshops include a short introduction followed by hands on experience with graffiti techniques. Participants can create their own design and take it home as a souvenir.

Owner Tim Bergboer (39) now crosses the country with three vans for the workshops. “We come to people’s homes and take things with us ourselves, such as hardboard panels and spray cans. You can keep the works afterwards.”

There are also outdoor locations in Amsterdam where the workshops are given. “This is possible in so-called ‘toleration zones’, such as the Amsterdam Bridge, Anderlechtlaan, De Omval or the Flevoparkweg.”

The prices of the various workshops are given on request.
