The Reading Person Reading is about communicating with others. Reading brings relaxation. Reading brings about changes. Reading is a means to improve and shape ourselves. Reading has shaped our current democracy. You can learn to read at any age. But it does take effort. All children experience how difficult it is to convert the letters of the alphabet into understandable words when they learn to read and write. Older people who are not very language proficient have an even more difficult time, participating in a reading society, in a language proficient society takes blood, sweat and tears.

Reading important source

‘Reading books – proof that you can be in two places at the same time’ (quote Loesje). Reading is an important source of stories, knowledge, but also imagination. By reading we also transport ourselves into lives we could have lived, or into lives from the past. Suspense, romance, true stories, short stories, long stories, the imagination can run away with the reader. How beautiful is that? Reading skills – especially among young people – continue to deteriorate. The short social media texts are insufficient to maintain or improve reading skills. Ultimately, this affects their functioning, and therefore also the functioning of society as a whole.
