WOODEN

Those who are proud of the quality of Houten’s DNA now have the opportunity to participate in sharing this pride worldwide. The book ‘The Green Embraced’ by urban planner Robert Derks, designer of Houten, is being rewritten and updated. It will also have a new design and, in addition to a Dutch new edition, will be translated into English. Houten’s DNA is given the highest place and is visible in the abundance of greenery and space for safe cycling and walking. This exceeds car use. You may wish to contribute to this publication by making a donation or by purchasing the book from June onwards.

by Irene van Valen

‘Green Embraced’ was published in 2013 as a book for insiders, students and urban planners. Derks wrote the book with his retirement in sight and recorded the then forty-year-old urban development history of Houten. He describes the how and why of the city’s development process in texts, sketches, etc.
