The IPB scheme allows airline employees to travel cheaply in their spare time. If there is still room available on board an aircraft, KLM employees can use it at a reduced rate. Customers always come first.

When using this scheme, personnel are divided into two categories: A and B, with A being more favorable. For example, an employee in category A is accepted on a flight in the order Business/Premium Comfort/Economy, while for B it is the other way around.

The FNV does not think it is fair that some employees enter category A more quickly (or immediately) than others. “Employees with high incomes are placed in category A based on their position. People with a lower income are placed in category A based on their years of service.”

The union wants all employees to be eligible for category A benefits based on their years of service, regardless of whether someone is a pilot, manager, ground or cabin employee. The current arrangement would be particularly disadvantageous for ground and cabin crew.

“The petition has broad support,” says FNV Aviation director Hacer Karadeniz. “Other comparable companies only look at the number of years of service that someone has worked for the company and not at the position. We expect KLM to do the same.”

The petition will be handed over to KLM on Wednesday at 2:30 PM at Jan Dellaertplein.

Not everyone is in favor of completely harmonizing the IPB scheme: the pilot union VNV previously stated that they consider this unnecessary.
