In her stand-up comedy show, Ellen DeGeneres looks back on the period when she was under fire for a toxic working atmosphere at her talk show. The presenter believes she has been “kicked out of show business”. She has now come to terms with the difficult period.
A number of (former) employees of The Ellen DeGeneres Show came out of the school in 2021 about the unpleasant atmosphere that hung behind the scenes of her talk show. After the fuss, the presenter stopped after nineteen seasons, although she said she made that decision because she felt like doing something different. Three editors were fired after the accusations. The presenter also put on the sackcloth. The talk show was last broadcast in 2022.
The accusations made the 66-year-old comedian feel like she was “the most hated person in show business”, she said during a new stand-up comedy show, according to American media. “That hatred lingered for a long time and I tried to avoid the news,” DeGeneres reflected.
The presenter’s self-confidence and ego suffered from the fuss, she said. “There are such extremes in this industry, people either love you and idolize you or they hate you, and those people somehow shout louder.”
DeGeneres is now doing well again. “It’s hard to dance when you’re crying, but now I’m dancing again.”
